Default Radar question, not new but older

I do not need to see more than a mile or two, do not need to see birds

This would be only to see idiots on our lakes that run NO *&%# lights, luckily the moon reflecting on the water showed his wake and we didnt hit last weekend

This has happened twice this summer, we only drive like 10 miles an hour at night if it's clear

This will be mounted on an aluminum pontoon roof

The question?

How far backwards with used equipment can I go and achieve my goals?

TIA

1950's. Anything built in the last 50+ years that still works will give you the performance you are looking for.

So I found a raymarine R21x 4ft setup local for 300 dollars, looks like it should do what I want....I think

it has all parts and uncut cables and works, he said we can hook it up before money changes hands.

if screen works and array spins quietly it should be good, how much noise should radar make when spinning?

So I bought a Raymarine Raytheon R21X 3 months ago, it works and thinking of the mount to build.
manual is copied from scans so not best quality and missing pages.

since my boat sits ass low, I want to build mount so radar is level when being used right? Or will a 10* tilt back be okay when i am only worried about 1 or 2 mile readings?

Also think about the pitch of the boat when running. Do you get a bit of bow rise that might add to that stationary angle, or does it diminish it?

Thank you, I didn't think about that...

It is an older pontoon with a 90 2stroke on lakes so bow rise only happens when someone walks to the back of the boat
