Please Gil comment these photos, what do you think about results al this depth?
A B75H or a medium chirp ducer would get out better results or not?

Of course the B75 at 600 watts and in a thru hull configuration would be better...but then you do not have Down Scan...only traditional.

The GT52HW with the Striker is a transom mount and 300 watts...but not bad considering.

Had the Gt 52hw out to 90+ feet offshore today and it did not disappoint. If there was any questions on it's offshore abilities you can lay them to rest. While I don't think it would be a good choice for deep dropping it certainly has the range of 100+ and likely double that with no issue.

Here is a shot of some white bait roaming near a small wreck. The sidescan image to the starboard side is diminished as I had the ducer clipped to my trim tab for a temporary mount and the motor was blocking one side. The image was taken with the 52 while hooked to the new Chirp 94sv Echomap I was testing.

It looks like the better option when compared to the GT50. If you want the detail in less than 120' of water you go with the 52? If, on occasion, I fish wrecks between 100' and 200', what would be a better "value" thru hull to supplement the GT52tm, B150 or B75? M or H?

I am looking to get a Chirp 94sv with transducer. I fish Long island sound - water depth less then 80 feet, mostly 10 - 40 foot deep.

It seems that the GT51M-TM Transducer would be the best choice.

How deep can the plan down view see bottom ? My understanding is that the side scan would not be useful at depths over 100 foot perhaps ?
Would the plan down view pick up bottom at 250 feet for example .

After going back and forth between the 51 and the 52 for the same waters as you, I talked to enough people who fish locally, have the Garmin, and know of the new 52HW. They still recommended the 51 because of the greater power and sensitivity of the traditional chirp given our water conditions and the ability to go deeper than 150'.

i have a gt 30 with a 7616 xsv and while it seems to work ok i dont get anywhere near the clear images like the photos in the thread, is that due to my lack of knowledge about tuning and settings ? or is that 52 that much different/ better?

its on a 24 bay that well never be used in anything much deeper that 125-150 ft

thanks
Jared

Both the GT52HW and the GT51 are a tad more sensitive.

Thanks for the info, the boat had the transducer on it when I bought it , it also has a b60 and I guess it's ok from what I read but nothing fancy. Thought about swapping them out but maybe I will wait.

If you are catching fish..then no need to upgrade.

And if you are not catching fish...
Then all that will happen is with a better system you will simply see in greater detail all the fish you are not catching...
mdees88 and shep126 like this.

No problem finding fish on old numbers but hoped to be able to get better bottom detail to find ledges and such on new ground

dadoe, I fish the south shore of Long Island, NY/NJ area (20-80ft mostly).

I just purchased the GT52, haven't installed it yet though...

Does anyone else agree that the GT50 would outperform the GT52 in this area?

Just hoping I didn't choose the wrong transducer...
