Thumbs up Transducer install and deadrise..

PM me here on THT
Gil Travis 1-800-925-0341 for Sales and technical support

I get a good many questions sent my way about determining the correct tilt for transducer install.

Just because the manufactures listed dead rise for a boat is lets say..20 degrees..that is not always what determines ones tilt of the transducer.
It many times may be correct but...

On many hulls...The closer one is the the keel of a hull the less deadrise encountered...if the boat specs are a 19 degree for example...that is the maximum.
If closer to the could be less.
Always best to measure at the spot where the transducer is to be mounted to be certain.
Here is a link to an app that will allow your cell phone to measure the angle.

If the deadrise is:
0 to 7 degrees you use a 0 tilt.
8 to 15 degrees....use the 12 degree tilt
16 thru 24 degrees use the 20 degree tilt.

I recently had a boater contact me and said he was fine reading bottom with his new boat in 50' -100' of water but at as he went deeper he lost bottom...and he wanted to see well past 500'.
(He was told he had a faulty sonar unit etc.)
The boat was installed with a B175C-20-M and after I had the boater measure the deadrise at the spot of mounting it was determined it was 11 degrees as the install was just next to the keel etc.
After putting in 12 degree B175C-12-M he then read down well past 1000'.

I have also seen where the correct tilt was selected but instead of having the "Arrow" on the ducer pointing to the was pointing elsewhere...also not good.
