Default Garmin Radar - Fantom vs High Definition

Gil,

Is the extra cost for an 18" Fantom Dome worth the price difference for an 18" High Definition Garmin Radar ?
The will will be used mostly for object avoidance at night with the possible usage for locating birds during the day time.
As usual, any and all advice is greatly appreciated.

For safety and navigation....the Fantom 18 is a valuable unit....almost instant targeting and situational awareness info .

I personally think it also will last far longer being solid state vs the older magnetron units.

Another huge advantage of the newer radars is their ability to resolve close in targets, which would be paramount for your stated purpose.
