Hey Gil,

What are the main differences between the 1243xsv and an 8612xsv (other than price of course)?

Thanks,

Cpalms

The 8612xsv is a dual band,with 3 transducer ports.

The 1243xsv is single band..1 transducer port.

If only using a single unit and wanting to fire 2 transducers..the 8612xsv is a good option.
But, if wanting to use 2 units..and firing dual transducers..the 1243xsv will save a good deal of $.

Do the processors in the 8612xsv and 1243xsv work at the same speed, or is the 1243xsv slower? If it is slower, is it noticeable, or not?

I cannot see any difference... and.......I do not know of any current unit by Garmin, Furuno or Sirmad that can be considered slow.
They all have very up to date processors.

Do you still have the 742xs in Stock? can it be networked to the 7x3 or 9x3 family?

Yes I have GPSMAP 742xs units...$655 shipped.
And all black body GPSMAP units can be fully networked to each other....including this one.

Default Thoughts on the XSV portion

Gil,
What's your thoughts on the xsv processor on these units versus a traditional black box? I'm torn between the 8612xsv to run a B175M and GT54UHD versus a 1243xsv and GSD 25 to run the same thing. Cost wise, I think they're about the same, right? What's the picture/processing power differences, if any? I typically fish in less than 250' of water and generally for bottom fish (western Florida). We might take the boat to the Keys or Bahamas someday, but not likely anytime soon. Thanks!

I see no major difference that would put one system over the other...when it comes to sonar capability.

Question 1243xvs still waiting to order one

Gil, looking to outfit to 1243xvs with a thru hull ,I want to sidescan out and fish saltwater under 250 mostly. What transducer do you recommend for Long Island Sound 's water which is NOT very clear.I might also want to use 2 ducers to track better at 40mph if possible. What do you think since the last time we talked,HERE in CT. By the way will they be in stock in April ?

A GT51 will give the best depth for side scan.

For bottom tracking at speed a 600 watt B75 or 1 kw B175.

The 1243xsv , 943xsv,743xsv can only fire a single ducer....so if you wish to have 2 ducer you need 2 of those units...
Or
a 8610xsv or a 8612xsv..whcih can fire 2 ducers each.

The 1243xsv has been on back ordered for some time..and those who already have orders in should get their units in the coming weeks.

and then..if Garmin can supply more units....open sales should have 1243xsv units late April

Gil
I have 7212 and a 942xs. I am wanting to get the G3 Vision card and it appears that they are not compatible with the 7212. Thinking of getting the 1243xsv to replace the 7212. Do they make an adapter plate for this swap (7212 to 1243xsv)?

The 7212 works perfectly, use it mainly for a bottom machine but i want to get the G3 chart (eye sight not as good as once was). I use the 942xs more for Radar and navigation.

Also i am running a GSD 26 with a Airmar B265LH and would like to add another transducer to do ClearVu, not SideVu. Can this be acheived with what i have mentioned?

The GT23 will have Traditional CHIRP and Clear Vu....and you can run the GSD 26 and the GT23 into the 743xsv / 943xsv / 1243xsv .

I have not seen any adaptor plates for the 1243xsv 7212.
