Gil...........I just put twin F350's on my boat and need an engine display. The CL7 is $2000, so I'm looking for a cheaper option. My tech told me to consider a gateway and second MFD. I currently have one 5212 which I would like to keep for chart/sonar. Does it make sense to use either one of these units below as the MFD engine display, also serving as a backup GPS?

Also, the descriptions of Echo Map and GPS Map seem identical. What are the differences? Thanks.........

Hey Gil, I currently have a pair of 1040xs that are starting to lock up on me on the sonar screens and act goofy with radar. I can’t update the firmware due to the sd slots being corroded to death. Is there an update workaround and if not do you know if the 1042 would be a plug and play replacement?

Unfortunately you have to use the SD slot..

and yes, you can use a 1042xsv....

Default Mfd

Hi
i have a 7408xsv paired with a TM265LH
I would like to have the GT-51 and have side and downview with medium range frequency capacity.

I assume that the 7406xsv cannot accommodate another 3in one transducer so i need an additional MFD.

What do you recommend? J

Correct ...you need another unit...

You can use the 94sv plus with a GT51...that is 500 watts for the GT51...$849 in a reman.

Or you can get a 1042xsv..keyed...60o watts for the GT51.
Or a 1242xsv keyed $2199....600 watts foe the GT51

or a 1242xsv touch...$2295..600 watts also..

Are these prices current? Looking for something with a screen smaller than 7 inches. Do they have offer anything without a sounder for less?

Hey Gil - What do you get in the 86 series that you don’t in the 12 other than touch screen Looking to replace a Simrad evo2 9” unit I bought from you in 2014. Would do a 10 or 12” Garmin and new transducer - probably TM51 or 52. Located in Charleston, rarely go offshore but would want to be able to read depth in 1000+ but only need to see bottom under 200’ or so. Vast majority of use in <50’.

Not looking to break the bank as I’ll probably sell the boat in a couple years. Also don’t fish as much with 2 boys under 4...

Will a simrad VHF work with it?

The main difference in the two units:

The 86 series has 3 transducer ports...and also have Live scope built in.
The 1042xsv / 1242xsv units have 1 ducer port and to have Live scope require a black box.

So, if one is wanting to run 2 or more transducers..the 86 series has the edge.
If one is only running a single ducer..as many do..then the 1042xsv / 1242xsv units are a good option....and far less $.

the side scan and CHIRP sonar circuits are the same on all units....so no difference there.

Thanks Gil. Will likely go with the 1242xsv + GT51M-TM. Even though I'll mostly be in shallower water, the extra power of the GT51 seems to elicit much better reviews. Not replacing until off-season service, but research begins now. Maybe there will be a holiday discount

Do you or do you know anyone who buys old units? Will have a Simrad EVO2 9", Structurescan ducer and Simrad Sirius XM antenna to unload. Will probably just leave the B75M in the hull...

What’s the difference between GPSMAP 8612xsv PART NUMBER 010-02092-03 and GPSMAP 8612 part number 010-02092-01?
