Default Mic Garmin VHF200

Hi Gill,
i bought from you in 2016 a Garmin VHF200 and with the years the cable hull is disintegrating.
I was searching online for a replacement, but could not find the microphone as the VHF 200 is discontinued.
I bought the mic for the VHF210 but it has a different plug, :-(

Do you have a idea where i can buy the original mic for the VHF200 or where to get a color code list where i could see how so cut and solder the old plug to the new mic?

Thanks so much for your help!

Chris

I will look into this in the Am.

Gil

Did a good bit of calling around to my suppliers and no one carries the mic anymore.

Waiting to hear back from Garmin on the wiring

Thanks so much Gil,
i was looking everywhere in the net and was not able to find not even a used one.
I was right to buy all my electronics from you and i will continue to do that!

This is really disppointing from Garmin, they changed the plug pin layout and the plastic screw for the same kind of microphone to make the new one unusable.
One reason for me to think about it to drop the VHF200 and get a ICOM as i never heard of such a problem.
Meanwhile i am using the microphone with no plastic protection, just the thin cables inside and that looks somehow "funky"

Today i am condemned to do office work, but will send a message to my captain that he takes a picture and I send it to you this afternoon.
Just some preliminary details:
1° the VHF and mic is in the overhed colsole who have a dark lexan cover
2° the cover is only open when the boat is in use (550 hours from when i bought boat and VHF in 2016)
3° the boat is stored in a shipyard from may till December, but the VHF is taken off the boat and stored in a pitch dark bodega
4° I will make you some macro pictures where it is visible that the cable is not cooked by UV, it's simply falling appart most likely by bad plastic mix
5° There is a tread here where another Garmin VHF210 owner has exactly the same problem
Thanks so much for your great after sales service!

Last I heard Garmin Out Of Warranty repair on peeling mic is $49. It is actually a replacement. Happened on my VHF 200 as well, poorly made cable

Thanks unobtanium,
what i heard is that the only compatible mic is the 250$ GDS20 what is abviously too expensive and i got no offer to repair it.
However sending it to US, repair it and sending it back to Costa RIca will be 150-200$ so it's not worth either.
I guess i will buy a new VHF or splice the old connector in to the new but wrong connector VHF210 mic.
I already bought the worng mic and sendig it back will be again pricy so i either try to sell it or make a frankenmic...

If you call Garmin customer service, they open an RMA for you and you ship it back for repair. Just got mine back good as new.

Thanks CJFL
i am aware of that, but i am in Costa Rica so shippping back and forth will be too expensive to make it worth.
And i will be for weeks without a VHF so i guess i will try to connect the new wrong mic to the old connector and pray that that will work.

Happened on my VHF 100 as well. I need to get it fixed but bought a Standard Horizon HX890 handheld as a backup until then.

I found a friend who brought the mic to Miami and shipped it to Garmin.
Price i paid before shipping is 73.83$ for replacement of the mic cable and shipping it back to Miami.
Xing my fingerst that now the VHF will hold for a while to make it worth to pay with shipping to Costa Rica approx 100$.
