Question Motorguide Xi5 w/Lawrance Carbon & Garmin Echomap Ultra

Would you please explain the differences, and/or advantages, between hooking up a Lowrance Carbon sonar via a “gateway” to a Motorguide Xi5 trolling motor and connecting a Motorguide Xi5 trolling motor to a Garmin EchoMap Ultra using a Garmin P/N 010-12122-10 8-pin transducer to 12-pin sounder adapter cable with XID. Do each of these set-ups have the same functions and advantages?

Connecting a Xi5 to a Lowrance unit via a pinpoint gateway via nmea2000 will allow you to "control" motor from the Lowrance display.. Turn motor on or off turn left or right, set a course.. run a series of waypoints etc..

In order to use the built in transducer on the motorguide, you would connect suppled 7n pin blue connector to blue port on Carbon unit.

The garmin unit is not compatible with motorguide pinpoint gateway. So you can not "control " motor from Garmin. IF you want to use the built in transducer on the motorguide and view it on the Garmin. You will need 010-11979-10 to convert cable to a blue garmin 8 pin female and then 010-12122-10 to go from 8 pin to 12 pin for Garmin Ultra unit.
