Never, ever, ever use a sealant with a rubber gasket. That is a recipe for a leak.
The replacement gasket for your fuel sender should be a composite gasket. Cork will leak fumes

Never run on both batteries, unless you plan to switch to #1 or #2 when you stop. The purpose of the switch is convenience of isolation (if you kill a battery, you have a spare)
