Check the actual current rating on the new motor. Verses wire gauge capability . More voltage may not mean more amperage.

solid wire will not take a crimp properly and will fail.
Solid to stranded wire is probably why they used those phone...

Just saying that the quick connects on many different engines can cause air leaks if old .
Old tank fittings can suck air and antisiphon valves on portable tanks...

Change the gear oil and oil plug gaskets.
Very clean. Start with new gas and oil.
Fuel pump rebuild kit wouldn’t hurt.
New fuel line with new quick connect fittings and primer bulb a good idea.

Did you take a shot of the #1 cylinder wall while you where in there?
Might be worth a hone and new piston and rings in #1...
