I guess flight ops were cancelled that day, huh?

My dad spent time on the Kennedy as a senior chief, ships company back in the mid-80's.

Stainless steel actually needs to be open to air in order for the chromium oxide to form correctly and apparently this happens very quickly. But in the past I've waxed my SST and it never hurt...

This doesn't directly answer your question, but thought I'd offer up what I did in this situation.

I replaced my POS Tie-downs with all SST Kodiaks about a month ago. Yes, it was expensive and I...

Well, there's a couple of things I want to comment on that may be related.

You are correct that a pure E-10 mixture, given that some of the ethanol boils off or is separated would otherwise leave...

Hi Everyone,

It's been a long time since I've been on THT since I've been out in the field. Plus I couldn't figure out how to list posts since my lost logon... but I digress.

Even though...

Re: Amps

Most multimeters (even the $10 ones at Harbor Freight) can do amperage, but usually only up to 10A. The easiest way to answer your question is to measure the amps directly and write these down in a...

Re: Fridge works on AC but not DC?

I think the point of confusion of a light vs a multimeter is this. You can read voltage on a power feed, but this doesn't tell you about impedance. Voltage yes, but possibly no amperage. This is why...

Re: 200 HPDI looses fuel pressure over swells?

As others have posted, drain the VST into a cup and see if there's water in there first. One other poster has confirmed finding water in there....

RE: dvi cable terminations

Adam,

DVI cables are a lot more tolerant of cable/connection quality than the older analog (e.g. DB15) styles so in your case, you can probably give it a go and see how it works out. Personally,...

RE: Charters on the east central coast of Florida

A friend of mine swears by this captain. My friend has his own boat, but will charter Brock occasionally. He tells me the captain is friendly and makes the day enjoyable.

RE: Fridge works on AC but not DC?

Probably the controller board. The compressor is more than likely AC (b/c the true DC flavors are more expensive) and if it runs off of AC, but not DC - sounds to me the inverter portion of the board...

RE: current draw of computer monitors??? which are lowest?

I'm assuming you're considering LCD's. Tube styles are horrendously inefficient. I think you can look up the wattage draw for about any model you're considering and work from there. There are even a...

Re: My new double redundant bilge pump system

Agreed. A buddy of mine lost his cat to what later was determined a hose break or slipping off the thru-hull. He said he discovered it when both pumps kicked in, couldn't stem the leak fast enough...

Re: Pesky cats crawling on your boat at night?........try this

Learned this about 15 years ago. Cheap and effective. Works on counter tops, cars and anything else cats jump onto. It's not too cruel and the cats eventually get it off. Usually only takes one...

RE: Yamaha Ring Free Question

I've heard both ways that Chevron Techron isn't exactly the same as Ring Free (similar, but different). If so, is the Techron applied at the same concentration as Ring Free (i.e. 1oz/10g)?

RE: Furuno BBWX 1 Sirius weather

I have this setup, primarily for running long distances offshore where weather becomes more of a concern. If you're buying it for SST, the resolution is coarse. I've used it to run to temperature...

Re: Rewiring for dual batteries

The entire charging circuit is rated at 45A max at WOT. The auxilliary lead's fuse is rated at 80A. Your effective charging amperage will be less than 45A at lower RPM's, and of course, due to...

RE: Should I get radar?

Yes, but you don't need the mega-high-powered open arrays. A 2kW dome will do just fine to see other boats. Or you can spend major bucks on night vision cameras.

Note however the radar isn't...

Re: Does my electrical system and batteries need to be upgraded when update electronics?

I would add that if you're overnighting (say for swording like I sometimes do) that it helps to do a survey of how much power each of your electronics draw. Turn everything off, put a multi-meter in...

Re: 200 HPDI looses fuel pressure over swells?

If you do find water in the VST, please report back. In another thread, I talk about a theory I'm forming about why this happens. Water should be trapped by the primary filter (clear one) and the...

RE: Irridium Sat hit in space.... Ruh-Roh....

They'll have some minor service dropouts until they move a spare from a parking orbit over to take its place. Probably about 30 days until the constellation is back to normal. Nothing to worry about.
