I have 12 rod holders in my bed.
All the 50's and 80's get reel covers, and slip on rod covers to protect the roller guides.
All the spinning rods go naked.

I travel 100-200 miles at least once...

Gelcoat is definitely the most durable finish.

Expect to pay for around 20hrs labor for the taping, sanding, and application at a fiberglass shop.
Prob a few hundred dollars in material as well.
