Be very careful of loading to the gills with small braid. Plastic frame can't handle the pressure. Otherwise should be fine.

9" knife is far too big. A 6" fillet knife is all you'll ever need. Maybe a larger cimiter knife for cutting swordfish steaks. Dexter 1376n is the only fillet knife anyone should ever own.

Pre-filling, at least somewhat saves a lot of aggravation. I would say do it if you have the access to be able to. Depending on the boat the secondary filter is it can be a PITA to get to.
