I had some time to look at the Mercruiser repair manual today and they have basically the same picture. I have seen drain holes on some drives in the location of the rear arrow (1 on each side)....

There are drain or weep holes in the drive but you are looking at the wrong location.

Alpha and Pre-Alpha drives have a hole located at the top front of the bullet on the starboard side....

Just to verify that the trailer is rated to carry 4,400 and not 4,400 GVWR. GVWR has to also include the weight of the trailer itself along with the weight of the boat.

That looks like it is from galvanic corrosion from dissimilar metals being bolted together. You have galvanized steel bolted against aluminum and the pressure from the corrosion between the two...

If by bow light you mean that there seems to be little weight on the bow stop, moving the axles will not necessarily cure this. It may be that the front of your main bunks or centering/guide bunks...
