I mainly use Farleca's polymer wax now. You can put it on in the sun in July with zero problems.

Sorry for slow response. Acetone for Black Marks. Yes wash thorougly, get rust and waterline stains out with acid, anything that requires harsh cleaner do before you start compounding.
