You can patch it up, test it for leaks with water.
And gas will still leak out cause it is thinner than water.

But the vertical forces are cushioned and dampened instead of the lateral forces.

I do not care what type of aluminum they are made of nor what their tow ratings are.
That design gives the load a really nice long lever...
