My friends and I just put a trailer coupler lock on it whenever we go on vacation, you can get one for like $25. I also agree with the previous comments that a well lit area goes a long way.

I would coat it in CRC Marine Spray. I also wouldn't use anything like truck liner as that will trap the moisture and most likely will cause it to rust quicker than if it wasn't coated at all.

I agree with the previous comments in that its better to have it instead of regretting it later. If the drain plug hole is threaded you could stick a bolt with a gasket in there.
