With a Yamaha 6y5-85721-F0 cable assembly connected to the Garmin output NMEA 0183 Port 2 Gray wire - TX out. Port 1 is connected to my VHF and works fine for GPS position.

Sounds like an Ignition Coil. You can test with a timing light. l would also check to see that all the injectors are pulsing. I had to replace all of mine last year.
