Yep. I've been a member here and there for many years and although I never personally engaged him, I watched many meltdowns from the sidelines. Fact is - he doesn't know when to quit and, as is...

Re: Will the transducers interfere with each other?

You'd have to compare the frequencies that they operate at to know if they would conflict. But you can always just turn off the Garmin ducer - its a menu option in the 188C.

Re: Garmin 198 c

You must be thinking of the 182c and 188c.

RE: Airmar P-79 Installation

You might want to download the current instruction manual from the Airmar site. They changed the recommended glue from 4200/5200 to silicone, but there are still units out there with old...

RE: Dual transducer question

I have a Lowrance 3500 (192KHz) ducer mounted less than 12 inches from my Airmar P79 (50-200KHz) ducer which is connected to a Garmin 178C. I have no interference issues. I think you're looking at...

RE: Lewmar Windlass Install on Bayliner 245

I recently installed a Lewmar 600FF on a Searay 270. I doubt my wire routing experiences would be of much value to you, but would be glad to share any relevant knowledge.

RE: legalities of posting pictures

I'm not a lawyer, but it sounds to me like you encountered a prick. I don't see how that's any different than showing a car wreck or a house fire on tv or in the newspaper.

RE: Chevy tailgate cable recall - don't procrastinate

I put these on my truck. Probably the best $70 I've spent on the truck.

RE: XM Radio--Boat Installation

It is very likely that you are actually picking up one of the terrestrial repeater sites and not a satellite signal - especially if you live near a decent sized metropolitan area.

RE: Garmin 178c vs. 188c

For me, the money was better spent on accessories - MapSource, BlueCharts, Data card, PC cable, etc. They're both excellent units.

RE: Garmin MapSource/Bluechart problem

I have the same setup on my 178C - Blue Chart and Rec Lakes loaded simultaneously. On the 178C, you have to 'Select' the map family to make it functional. This is done through the menu by going to...

RE: Price Matching at West Marine???

Same here, but I usually deal with the manager. She told me that they are not allowed to match EBay quotes, though.

RE: garmin-pre programed data cards or cd-rom

Yes, but not the same amount as a 'large preprogrammed card'.

Probably, but for less than 10 bucks more you can get a 64mb which will surely be enough with room to spare.

RE: New GPS and VHF Choices and DSC Compatibility

I have a 178c (172c w/ sounder) connected to a Standard Intrepid and the DSC works fine. So the Garmin/Standard mix will work. I can't imagine that Icom would not as they should be using NMEA.

I...

RE: garmin-pre programed data cards or cd-rom

I really wish Garmin offered the AC/PC cable in a USB version. Serial ports are fast...

RE: garmin-pre programed data cards or cd-rom

You can probably load any Blue Chart region into 32mb, but the 64mb and 128mb cards are typically better deals for not alot more dollars.

RE: Garmin map scource question

I have both (BlueChart and Rec Lakes) on one card. I don't remember the correct sequence, but you can do what you're trying to do.

RE: garmin-pre programed data cards or cd-rom

Yes, with the ac/pc serial cable your 172/182 becomes the programmer. I personally think its the better choice if your plotter is not flush mounted.

RE: garmin-pre programed data cards or cd-rom

You don't need both - you need either the USB data card programmer OR the ac/pc cable. Either one allows you to program the cards. Get the USB data card programmer if your unit is flush mounted or...

RE: 188C vs. 178C

I looked at both units before going with a 178C. I liked the idea of higher resolution, more colors, and faster processing speed (ie screen redraws). The difference in screen size was not enough to...
