I have had both in 35- 40 hp range. And was much happier with the Kubota. The Kubota was flawless for 1000 hours of pretty hard use, not one cent spent on non-wear or other than routine maintenance.

Remove the control switch from the helm. 6 inches or so under it, at least on mine, was a canon plug. Four wires, I believe. In other words, it's where the control switch plugs into the boat's grid....

I have a BW 315 Conquest with a bow thruster. I would advise against the joystick. It's not really necessary, I hardly ever even use the thruster but it has been nice a time or three on windy days....
