I have a Furuno FCV-588 with 1k ducer and also a Garmin 1242xsv with GT-51 chirp. For 200' and less the Garmin is better. Anything deeper, I personally like the traditional Furuno.

I wasn't aware of that. What apps will do this 40 or 50 miles offshore with no cell service? I have a vesper and it is awesome but would be curious how the cell phone app would compare.

common problem on suzuki's. I carry a spare filter and oil for that reason. The filter probably popped. I'm sure the mechanics didn't punch a hole in it. He may have put it to tight though....

I drilled hole as directed by Garmin, put cable through, filled with 5200 then screwed on the scalloped cover. Granted the penetration is below the water line but I've not had any problems.
