You shouldn't need to match brands. Once the VHF sends the AIS data to your network, any networked device should display it. Currently, I have ICOM 506 and the AIS info displays on my EVO 3.

Steve, my twin 200's also use a single cylinder and tie bar, but I've got the SeaStar power assist unit. May be more work and money than you are planning on, but it's as easy to steer as a car.

If your boat is wet slipped, the transducer needs anti-fouling protection. Either use the little bottle of MDR transducer paint or some water based bottom paint like aqua one, aquaguard, etc.
