Had my first bout of the dreaded orange stain last weekend. it was in the form of overspray, looking just like speckles of orange paint, hand prints, large areas of the deck. Several on the boat had...

I've looked for some definitive data on when Tohatsu started supplying all the small motors for Merc and who supplied them prior to that. Info seems scarce as hens teeth which isn't surprising. One...

Re: 90HP Yamaha 2 Stroke Unhappy

you are describing all kinds of crap coming in from the fuel tank/lines clogging the motor. no motor can eat jelly stuff and water. I've pulled all kinds of crap out of fuel tanks after they were...

Re: small boats and t-tops

I don't recommend a ttop on anything less than 17. I've seen numerous Smith Ttops on 17s that work well for their owners. As Marker150 notes, if its windy a light boat will be significantly...

Re: Help me pull my foot out of my mouth... (fuel problem?)

I hope Gringo is correct. note: the bulb will always go soft immediately after starting the engine as fuel pressure in the line goes slightly negative. now if the bulb gets sucked flat, thats a...

Re: Rod Holders on Powdercoated Aluminum

what size tube do you have? Aluminum clamp-on rod holders will not have clearance for the added thickness of the powder coating. Most Smith sizes come with a protective plastic sleeve to protect...

Re: 1997 Seacat Gel Coat

you could contact Don the owner of the currently sold SeaCat brand. He was plant manager of the original SeaCat/North American Fiberglass predating WorldCat.

Re: How many people running synthetic oil in there diesel?

I run Mobil 1 in everything including my Duramax Diesel from the first oil change forward. Right now I have 50,000 on the 2003 truck and 8,000 on the Mobil 1. The 8000 mile old oil is "almost" as...

Re: Flat tires

Perhaps the trailer is incorrectly sized, but I doubt it. I go back to my rule of thumb. simply stated, all 4 tires should (must) be rolling in the same direction. Unfortunately perfect alignment is...

Re: What's in your pocket??

I don't leave the house without a Leatherman, have the "Charge" on the belt, has the tools to do next to anything.

Re: Piranha Propellers

they are good, reasonably priced, props. if you hit something hard they will break, which is by design to protect your engine. And as 4 blade props the blade/dia is smaller. I've run them as primary...

Re: Console mounted T-Tops, Pros and Cons?

the console really needed (note past tense, read at the factory) really needed to be built to receive a console mounted ttop. lots of extra glass and even internal console tube structure is needed...

Re: Flat tires

BI, lots of advice, but most is way over complex. Axle alignment as measured from coupler to some point on each axle is of marginal use. Trailers and axles are rarely even close to perfectly...

Re: Question for cat captains that trailer

all cats sit higher on the trailer than a monohull and as such require slightly more ramp to float Unfortunately there is not a ramp design oversight cop roaming around checking marine builders...

Re: Marti from Holland - R.I.P

When I saw the ... R.I.P post, it really brought a lump to my throat. was afraid to click on it. I never met Marti in person but we traded e-mails often. The world just lost a really good man.

Re: sunglasses fogging up?

ditto Grady Wahoo on the air flow. many of the new wraps arounds just plain fit too close about like diving goggles. no air flow = fog.

Re: Sea cat boats

i've got a 1995 21 with honda 50's. ditto the recomendations above. The "new" seacats are made by the same man who built my boat in 1995, Don Fiddler. Don made several improvements over the old...

Re: melting prop hubs / spinning hubs

As Kerno notes, even if the lower unit got super hot, (ie no oil or something) It would still not transfer enough heat thru the shaft to melt the hub before the lower unit would explode with a big...

Re: melting prop hubs / spinning hubs

Shouldn't the hub be constantly awash with cooling system water mixed with the hot exhaust gasses flowing thru the prop? If your engine is not overheating the cooling water is flowing someplace. ...

Re: OK, spark plug experts, heres one for ya.

The I wonder how close the piston / valves came to the overly long plugs I don't know this engine, but most of the engines I have been inside of don't have much clearance. 76GMC1500 makes a good...

I'm happy to say that broken plastic and stamped rod holders made by my competitors account for a large percentage of Smith rod holder sales. Broken usually means either the gimbal pin broke out or...
