I'm not sure the corrosion didn't happen because all the plastic burnt off the connector and left it exposed (mostly salt water use) but you could be right.

They describe a test for the rectifier in the manual but it doesn't look like mine at all. Mine is a flat square the one they show the test for is a diamond shape with 4 bolts.

That may be useful out in the deep blue sea but the only people who use VHF in the bays of Texas are the barge drivers. I used to keep it on all the time and would go days without hearing any traffic.
