Might actually be one of the easiest fixes ever on a boat. Remove steering wheel, replace seal, add the CORRECT type of hydraulic oil and reinstall steering wheel.
One hour job.

So true. Buddy needed a new LU for Verado 300 and if I recall it was $6 - $7,000. I never understood why it was so much more $ than Yamaha. At that point peeling paint would have been a non-issue.
