The only time I do is cooler weather. All of my polo's are micro fiber, which is great in the summer, but too cold when it's 45-60 degrees. I much prefer short sleeves to long, whenever feasible.

They are definitely the appropriate thickness. Not too thick (hot), but not thin and cheap. They don't tend to bunch up nearly as much as others.

I like an undershirt under a polo on warmer days...
