Rod27, from my understanding is the silver and black lowers are both HD units with the same size but the silver lowers have a different gear ratio and bigger prop shaft.

Just spoke with my marina and Mercury approved the 1.85:1 lower units...the black ones for the $1400 each. So that is what I'm getting.

I'm excited about getting 3 new lower units and a year...

My boat hits 72 on a very very light load. I can do 68 with 300 gal of fuel at around 6150rpm in flat water.

I don't run WOT a lot but I don't want to lose top speed...
