One thing I do is troll on a single engine. Not sure how much is helps but it can't hurt. Also, I run them wide open for a minute or two on the way in to blow the soot out.

I have twin 150HPDIs (same motor mostly). Plugs were fouling pretty frequently on Yamahalube. Penzoil semi synthetic seemed to fix the problem. Been running great for 7 years since.

Most one cylinder engines spark every revolution since the magnet for the coil is mounted on the flywheel. See if the coil is next to the flywheel. If so, it sparks every revolution like a 2 stroke.
