Default Anyone that has info on vortex springs...

Interested to know how likely I could get a diver that isnít certified into the water there. My boys actively dive but arenít certified yet and Iíd like to take them. Before I get all of the advice, Iím not interested in your thoughts on them diving without a certification, only if they strictly monitor the water or not.

diving with out training/certification, has to be the most irresponsible thing a parent could do with their children! dont be that tough guy, spend the money and get the proper training! how are they getting tanks filled if not certified? i am assuming you are handling that part for them?

here in central Florida we see this annually, father/kids go diving something goes wrong and some one does not make it back, 90% comes down to someone was not trained/certified!

Thanks for exactly what I said I didn’t want, to be clear they aren’t new to diving and are well trained. I’m simply asking if vortex checks divers as they enter the water. I don’t need nor am I looking for advice on my children’s safety or training needs, at least not at this time. (And no, not being a tough guy)

Been a while since I have been there but I'm pretty sure anyone diving, gets an arm band so they can tell who paid for what activities. To get the arm band you have to show your certification card. they don't have anyone standing at the stairs into the water checking bands, but they do patrol the areas.

if they have proper training they would have the card, which then would not be an issue for checking as they enter! so unless there is some really odd details going on, they have not been certified!

I believe you can hire an insured and current active PADI scuba instructor to accompany your gang into the state park and dive with them. He would conduct a scuba experience/ discover scuba dive with them. These state park rangers take their jobs seriously, trying to bribe a stranger in a uniform probably works better in Mexico.

I was a career PADI OWSI and taught for 30 years or so. I retired in 2013. I am unsure what has changed, but I can hook you up with a professional that can make safely this happen for you. You can call Rick Murcar at Aquatic Adventures, 813 788 6476, and Gene (former owner) referee you.

And hello Roland!

Who trained them?

And, what about the life lesson in all this, it's okay to ignore the rules and guidelines that are put in place for safety?

Last time I was there was probably 20 years ago. I don't think anyone was checking for C cards. There were also more people smoking weed in public in FL than I had ever seen. I also saw a fistfight that made me laugh until I almost cried. It was a family affair and everyone from age 6 to 76 was involved.

Somewhere I have a pretty awesome photo of a pile of people in a fight with an 8 year old coming into the frame with the "people's elbow"

There are instructors that will perform a checkout dive for an interim certification. BTW, Dive cert classes are fun. Bottom line, I hope they are as trained as you think they are...there is math involved you know.. ha ha

There you have it, they don't check C-crads, you got the answer you're look for.

Ben McDaniel's did quite a bit of diving there and didn't worry about having the certification for those dives. Not sure if Vortex checks better these days or not.

Rick Murcar has run the NACD into the ground and calls lawyers on anyone who mentions it. No way I would recommend him at all.

" ok kids I found away around needing to get you certified!" , and this is not coming from a safety guy, I dove for years in college without being certified and the friend who taught me couldn't get through college, so I know a bad decision when I see one.

This might not be about how skilled they are, this is about doing the right thing....
