Cool Our Largest Ultra Tower! 38 Topaz

You never know what just a phone call is going to bring! A lovely lady called and said her and her husband just bought a 38 Topaz in New Jersey. He was en route to the pan handle and they wanted to get the tower coated with our Line-X Ultra in White. Since I'm always willing to push the limits with what we can do accepted the challenge. I have a good network of marine trades and marinas around me. I fish against Lee Blenker often who owns Blenker Boat Works on the Manatee river. I called in a favor to have him pull the Topaz and pull the tower. Lee also delivered the top to my tower guy to have some rod holders cut and added. In addition we had some gussets added to hopefully eliminate any chance of breaks in the future. To be honest when I saw the 30 year old tower I was skeptical as was my tower guy. It wasn't until we installed the tower that I saw the vision and the results came out very very clean! Here are a few pictures as we worked through it-

All pretty for transport. So much fun towing a sprayed 15ft wide tower!

We had not yet sprayed anything this big and I was excited to see the results. I was really stoked when the 2nd top was put on. The results came together nicely and the customer was stoked. While at Blenkers he had the 30 years of bottom paint stripped and a few fiberglass repairs done along with a fresh coat of bottom paint. It was a win win for him as this all got done on his way home from buying the boat in New Jersey. The boat now resides in the pan handle and will be crushing wahoo's out at their box!

Safely at home. The customers brought a RV and stayed at my shop a few nights. We became friends , cooked some steaks and they got to see us work till 3am one night completing a full spray F150 with Ultra. They run Outlaw Oysters up there so maybe a few of you know them.

Nice work on that old Topaz. Buddy of mine and myself took a quick look at that boat when she was for sale up here in NJ, way more of a project than he wanted to get into. Glad someone took it on

This is interesting, do you have any other pictures of large towers that you have done? How does this hold up? My tower has some pitting in it, does this affect the final coating or the longevity of the coating? What the approximate cost of coating a tower like this? Fell free to PM me.

Severe pitting sometimes shows through. I have Ultra in the field for around 6 years now. Of course in this type of application some issues were identified. Last year we went back to the drawing board to improve our primer system and developed a dual primer application. I had corporate test some panels and the results came in around 2250 psi of adhesion! As long as some care is taken on installation I can see the system we have now lasting a very long time. Isolators and silicone to help keep dis similar metal corrosion at bay is key. We did just complete a new Contender 44 gap tower setup! Feel free to give us a call to discuss. Thanks for the interest - Brian
