Default Scammed on hull truth

Put up a post under the parts forum looking for an empty shell for a 18' garmin hd radar unit. Received a response from liam4l that he has a unit and to teext him at 717-snip. I text him - we agree on a price - i send him $150 via paypal friends and family - that's where it ends. - his response is he wants a screen shot of the paypay payment - which i send - nothing after that. I attempt to call - send over 15 emails to xxxxxgood1.com - and nothing - a response to remove my dispute on paypal - which is non existent - no response - no radar shell - obviously a scammmer. Just beware. Have had numerous transactions on the hull truth - over the years - never a problem.

You really have to google the phone # if you do not know the person, googling that number shows he hit other web sites too

It, unfortunately, is becoming a trend recently

In these days of ripoff artists, scammers, petty thieves, etc, an extra measure of diligence is required before parting with hard earned $$$$$$$.

Aren’t we all just one big family here?

Just kidding, that sucks. Thanks for the heads up, I’ve seen too many of these stories to ever send F&F.

Thanks for the comments - has anyone ever tried the reverse phone # apps that claim to give you a name and address of the cell phone users?

I feel your pain as I just lost $175 a week ago too. Same exact thing. Had what I was looking for, sent pictures, sent money and screen shot. That's when they deduct the money so you can't go in and cancel. Plus with friends and family you as the buyer have no recourse. From now on I'll request a invoice and pay the minor fee.

I messed with my scammer. Wanted PayPal and when I told him/her/it that I didn't have PayPal they asked for Amazon gift cards. Told him/her/it that I didn't have any but I'd put together the total amount in Olive Garden, Gander Mountain and Starbucks gift cards. He/she/it didn't like that and got pissy so I then told him/her/it that I would be going to their city on business the following week and that I could just meet them in person and give them cash but unfortunately wouldn't work either. Apparently their/they're/there aunty was ill in California and they would be out of town visiting her that week. Bummer.

IMO , any seller encouraging you to dishonestly declare "Friends or Family" which removes your usual right to dispute a bad transaction, is too likely a scammer or at very least already declaring him/herself dishonest.

This seems to indicate his origin is Nigeria, though perhaps that is just a VPN red herring:

I don't deal with anyone here unless they have 100 posts and a 3 year history.
