Good afternoon ran into an issue today while doing lower unit and engine oil maintenance. Motor is a 2008 Df 300 the whole shaft is coated in oil when I pulled the lower unit to change the waterpump any ideas ?? I'm going to take it to shop today bad deal? Pretty sure powerhead is going to have to be removed;(

Looks like the seal around the driven gear holder needs to be changed. You must pull the powerhead to do. You could run it like that for awhile just keep an eye on the oil level each trip, I've never seen one so bad that all the oil leaked out and caused problems. But it should be replaced at some point.

Ouchhh so I'm guessing 1200 plus tab for this repair since power head has to be removed?

Default Update

Ended up finding my drive shaft splines are extremely worn down/stripped so going to have to replace driveshaft and I believe gearcase and change all seals. Involves removing powerhead not real sure where oil came from but glad I got this figured out instead of having my shaft completely strip 80 miles offshore. Cant upload pics for some reason wont stay attached to post.Cold start compression was 130s what mechanic said does that sound decent he said once motor warms up it should be better compression.

Those splines are worn but not horrible, but since you have an oil leak as well its smart to pull powerhead, do the new driven gear and oil seals to fix leak then do the driveshaft as well.
