Default DF175 Alarm

I'm new to the 4 stroke platform. I have a pair of 2006 DF175's. Yesterday while flushing both motors simultaneously, using the engine running method, and several minutes into it, one engine produced an alarm indicating temperature. It was in this state for about 30 seconds before I shut it off.

I did notice a reduction in pee flow and the sound of the engine changed as if it went into a safe mode of something.

Coming from the 2 stroke world I'm automatically thinking impeller, water pump and or thermostat. Is my line of thinking correct? Is there something I should check/eliminate first?

Any tips, advice, procedure methods and do or don'ts will be appreciated.

Tight Lines,

I guess you were using muffs because it’s not recommended to run engine on flushing port. At any rate, maybe a lack of water pressure for twin engines? Maybe you could try to just flush the one alarm engine by itself. Next, I guess check Tstats and finally pump impeller. From reading and from experience, water pump impellers are usually putting out enough water to prevent over heating - the larger problem is usually elsewhere!
