Default ‘85 evinrude E90TLCOS V4 engine not starting

Hi, new to the boating community. Tried starting my ‘85 Evinrude 90 hp V4. It turned over a couple of times now all I get is a click. Starter? Solenoid? Any other ideas??? Thanks for any assistance! PS, my husband is NOT mechanically inclined.

Make sure the battery is good and also fully charged. If it's weak, the starter gear won't slide all the way up the shaft to engage the flywheel, hence the "click." The same shaft might also need a spray of WD-40 or equivalent so that the gear slides easily.

Turn key and cross fingers. If same problem, have battery tested. New batteries occasionally are defective. Next thing to check would be starter solenoid.

Starter solenoid 90%. Test if your starter motor is getting battery voltage when you turn the key to start position and after you hear that click. If you dont get voltage, it is solenoid problem. It is easy to remove it, open and repair it.
