Decided to do the weakfish thing again today. I'm glad I did. We had a bunch of fish.

We made the decision to run east instead of west out of fire island. At the mouth there was a ton of bunker. My thought was there was just blues under them but we dropped the trolling lines and trolled the area for about 10 minutes. With no bass hits, we pulled up the lines and went to Ocean Beach. We first went deep, but there was just a little bait, then we ran up to the beach. There was bait everywhere and we landed our first fish 39.75lbs within minutes. Leigh caught it. The spincaster reel frustrated her so she turned it upside down and almost took off the handle!! I was excited for her and I prayed to the fish gods to not lose that fish. At the end; she got the job done and landed it!

It was now around 9am and some off the pressure was off. We grabbed a 2nd fish, 34.85lbs, about an hour later.

We began using our AllPro Wang Jigs and catching cocktail blues. We ran south to the 3 mile line and set up one wire line for sharks, and put one live blue on for sharks/tuna. About 1000 yards south of us we saw tuna breech and co.e completely out of the water. This pod of tuna were heading in our direction. Within 10 minutes our balloon on our shark rig released and our reel began to scream. It was crazy. We believe it was a thresher because it initially came to the top, then drove straight down. The clock was against us. We knew we only had 15 minutes to land this fish because we had to turn back to weigh in our bass.

We began backing down on the fish, recouping line. In my mind I'm saying I dont want to bring a green thresher to the boat, that will almost guarantee an injury or property damage. We kept working the fish, slow and easy..and we got to the leader... but at that time our line broke at the knot (polermar) and it was time for us to race back to the scales.

Our 39.75lb fish didn't place, but many great fisherman did... kuddos and congrats to them!
Nice Fish! Congrats!

Bluefin have showed up but they are spotty right now (except in NJ where they are getting them 20 miles from shore). Some have been "lucky" and found them but they dont appear to have settled in.

The Sea Bass bite has been awesome all around NY, but of course our regs dont permit such fishing until late June (think 23rd)....

I think the weather is playing a role. We get one decent day, then a week of wind and/or storms. Not sure we can blame the landscapers for our brownish tide/water clarity... I think the wind and turbulent currents have more to do with it.

Today is Suffolk Marine Stripe Bass Tournament. Probably the best Stripe Bass tournament around based on the group that fishes, how its organized, the captain meeting and the after party. Hope to see you out on the water!
The shore bite on the southern east end has been spotty. Mostly schoolies, an occasional keeper. The odd thing is, getting as many during the day as at night.

Had a good day on Monday- picking up a few nice bass early. Had to beat back the chopper bluefish for a while, but I was able to get a bait through them.

Yesterday fished early again, got blanked. Just one of those days - everyone around was tight - we were not. Sometimes you are the hammer, sometimes the nail.

Good to see a lot of fish being released both days, people taking the time to revive the big ones and let them swim. There are some very large fish being caught.

Left the dock around noon headed to the east and it was game on - had fish to 35lbs and left them biting. Wind was honking when I got back to the marina

FI Inlet is well marked at this time. No issues, just note that the #6 is much closer to Demo than ever before (my point being you won't find it anywhere near where it used to be). Make a hard left at 6 going out and you are good to line up the rest of the markers.

We had 10 fluke while weakfishing. One was actually a keeper. We also had plenty of weakfish. Weather turned out to be real nice.

I plan on getting out there today. Any advice on where to go would be appreciated. I'll be putting the boat in near East Islip at 4. I figure I'd head to Point o Woods for some weakfish for the end of the outgoing tide. Then I was going to go into the ocean off of Ocean Beach area to try for stripers waves permitting, if not stay by RMB. Sound reasonable?

Well decided to go bass fishing last night, first trip of the year I can honestly say I only caught 1 bass LOL.... I could see the fish cruising the flats but they did not want to touch a thing. I threw the whole bag, the anchor, the cast net, grappling hook, snag hook, even threw one of my crew members in. They wanted nothing to do with me and the skiff. Well weather is iffy for this weekend so cant go tuna fishing. Might as well start drinkin

God I miss hunting strippers.
Unfortunately the pursuit of the sport at this point in my life would leave me with potential life threatening injuries.😀
Good luck and Good hunting
