We finished Billys By The Bay fluke tournament this weekend. Had a couple of nice keepers out of Montauk one was 26 1/2 inch the other was 23 1/2. Tons of nice Seabass I can’t wait for two more weeks. Winning fish was almost 11 pounds and came from Three Mile Harbor area and runner-up was a 10 pounder that came from right by the Breakwater.

First fishing this season in the bay for me. Pretty much what most other reports are - lots of fish, but not many fluke.
Fished with my two little guys (4 and 6) on Saturday AM. Only one fluke but plenty of action.
Fished my myself on Sunday for a few hours. Caight everything in the ocean except fluke lol.
Ready to hit the Gut, Montauk and offshore.

We fished it too. You guys did better than us. Got two keepers 22" and 23".

That friday before we got two more keepers about that same size as well as two weakfish up to 23".

Also were catching some nice sea bass. Too bad the season is not open yet.

Compliments of The Fisherman and WEGO ( Bold Print My Edit)
June 3, 2019:
Craig from We Go Fishing Bait and Tackle in Southold reports the fluke fishing has improve greatly in the bay, especially along the west side of Shelter Island by the Green Lawns. Joe Develo had a 12-pound brute on Saturday, while Phil Curcio nailed a 7-pounder. Zack Auer had an 8.6-pound flatty, Pete Sideris a 11-pounder and Joe Berry with a 10-pound beauty. Jumbo porgies to 4 pounds are all over the bay as are weakfish to 24 inches. Stripers have also improved in the Race and Plum Gut with most of the keepers being taken on the flood tide. Craig was excited to report several bluefin tuna being taken between the Bacardi to Shinnecock. The speedsters are slamming Side Trackers and Daisy's. Please note that Wego's is your one stop for all your offshore needs. Whether its ballyhoo baits or Side Tracker chains, the shop has everything to make your offshore adventure the very best. Some Mako and blue sharks are being taken at the Fingers.

I'm at Hog Creek, next inlet east of TMH and fished there my whole life...an 11 pounder near TMH? Really? There's a nice channel running north from the mouth towards the red gong TMH buoy that I always thought would be fluky....but 11lbs? Whoa!

This fishing is so hit or miss.

I will go fish there for like three hours and get no fluke then a buddy of mine will go in in one hour get a bunch a fluke and a nice weak fish.

The one thing Iíve been getting pretty consistently now in the bay is cocktail blues. Iíve been saving a bunch hopefully going to use a shark bait soon.

Fished Greenlawns and eastward from Greenport to bug light both Saturday and Sunday. Had a couple of keeper fluke, some shorts also, couple cocktail blues, nice sea bass or 2 released, and many sea robins but less than previous trips out there. Will try again this week.

Default Compliments of WEGO Tackle

Wego Fishing Bait & Tackle
June 10, 2019:
Tyler from We Go Fishing Bait and Tackle in Southold reported the porgy bonanza continues anywhere from Jessup Neck to Cherry Harbor. Most of the scup are mixed size, however there are some jumbos spread throughout the bays. Weakfish are mixing in, as are lots of giant sea bass, which hopefully are being released. Fluke fishing remains excellent with a lot of fish in the 5 to 7-pound range. A few big flatties are coming from the Green Lawns again this week, however Bug Light and the old Oyster Factory has come to life as the fluke are on the move. Dave and Tommy Johnson both had their limits of fluke to 7 -12 pounds fishing off the factory. Doug Emery also had a limit of flatties between 5 and 7-pounds. The big fish however came from Ron Bielecki with a 10.77-pound flattie caught at the Frisbees off Montauk. Striped bass fishing is good in the Race and Plum Gut with a good number of keepers being culled from loads of shorts.

Fished south side of Montauk on Sunday. Was gonna go offshore but weather scared me off. Not sure if it was the right decision or not, it was ROUGH in the warm water just off the ledge from what I heard. But the fish were there in an epic way. Now that it is blowing all week, we will have to see what happens to this water. Maybe Monday next week...anyway...
Montauk was hit or miss. We found a couple patches of fish but nothing too hot. Big BSB are there of course, because season isn't open. Hope all on this thread are having a nice start to the season.

Has anyone done any prospecting west of the thread's title towns in the bays? I found some short fluke in Robin's Island south race and toward Roger's Rock. No keepers. Maybe Mattituck/Cutchogue gets included in this thread!

I spent '17 fishing out of GPBM. Canal, Robin's Island ( east and west side) and Rogers Rock were on the routine. Short Fluke and Porgies were the norm. It's the reason I moved the boat to Strongs Sound in '18 and now trying POE in Southhold. So far
Sea Robin's have been the main catch at Shelter and Jessups for us. Will start expanding to the east Greenport etc.

Some weakfish have been around those areas like the south race. But that was a few "weeks" ago. Topwater snapper blues in and around the same area early in the morning.

"Groan." That was weak. I see where this could be headed.

I'll be out most of next week. Will report anything noteworthy.

Fished Saturday from Greenport to bug light. First drift 2 short fluke and 1 robin. Then the wind was turned on and we suffered for another 2-3 hours of only robins. Sunday's weather was nicer and fishing was better but still no keepers in the cooler except a cocktail blue for some friends that love them. Still waiting for that great day of fishing to give you guys a heads up but it's been slow picking out there this spring so far. Hope it gets better soon.

Went south to Shinnecock today. Stayed in the bay. A nice 17 3/4” fluke and a few shorter. Bunch of Bluefish. They were eating spearing.

Fished today East of gardeners island looking for sea bass. Had about 10-12 in 2 hours with 2 keepers but released all of them anyway. 12-15 porgies also caught, most if not all were legal size but all released, was looking for a couple of jumbos for Sunday dinner. Fluke fished from East of Greenport to downtown area and had only sea robins. Caught half dozen cocktail blues around the 10 can on diamond jigs for a little afternoon fun and called it a day when boat motor wouldn't stay running. No fishing tomorrow, will be bringing boat home for service next week. Hopefully on the water in a week or two.
