very recent, but from docks around Boston not from Maine or a smelt shack.
my guess is that the shacks are not out yet but I am not sure of this.

you are correct.jims smelt camps{bowdoinham,me.} just posted an update,3-4 days old,on facebook,and it was for unsafe ice as for now.getting close though with cold weather in the forecast.

You can’t really mistake a rainbow smelt. They have a very pronounced odor like watermelon or cut cucumber.
