Default 2018 South of the Vineyard Buddy Boat Thread

Update. The FB page is closed for now. Once we use it for a bit I may reopen it. I'm sorry to disappoint some of you. Please bear with me, and in the meantime we will keep posting here as well.

Greetings Buddy Boaters!

Well, it's almost June. Time to get this thing going.

For those of you who are new here, this thread idea got started a few years back when a number of us were new to fishing south of the Vineyard. We were looking for a way to share intelligence on where the fish are, team up with other boaters who were heading out on the same day (for security and to cover more ground), and a way to find crew who are willing to go out with us or captains who are willing to take us. The thread did its job and lots of us have now become friends who meet up in the reel world.

The participants are largely people who fish in the waters south of Block Island, Matha's Vineyard, and Nantucket. Most of the discussion focuses on the waters out to the shipping lanes, but some of us make it all the way to the Canyons and contribute intell as well.

So if you are interested in working with a bunch of people on here who are looking for tuna, mahi, marlin, wahoo, and sharks feel free to contribute. We usually start things by posting up with a description of our boats, where we dock, and if we are willing to share intel, take others along, or serve as crew. After the first page or two, it just becomes a running conversation of trips we plan to take, calls for crew to join us, and fishing reports.

In addition to this thread, this year I'm going to try to start a Facebook group. If you want to be part of this effort, send me a PM with your Facebook name and e-mail address. I won't include anyone who just joined THT. You'll have to have some history with this site to join and I won't add your friends to the group either. Once I have e-mail addresses from about 10 people, I'll create the group and send you a message with a the name of the Facebook page. We'll all be able to use the Facebook page to run multiple discussions and keep them better organized than what we can do here in this thread. This will be a closed group so the information won't be visible to the public. I may even make it a secret group so non members can't even see it. Even if you are already a part of another group, you are welcome to join this Facebook group.

So, let's get things started for 2018. My name is Bill. I have a 30 foot Grady named Business Interruption. I fish out of East Falmouth and I usually need crew. I've been doing this for five years now and have a life raft, PLB and submersible vhf radio in the ditch bag that also contains a lot of signal equipment and first aid supplies. I have outriggers and usually run a six rod spread with a combination of 50s, 30s and Penn 9/0s. I am loaded with spreader bars, chains, and diving lures and Joe Shute style lures. This year I have a new Raymarine Axion Pro system. I hope to get things started around mid June off shore and I'm happy to share intel with those who return the favor and coordinate with others who are out there at the same time. Last year I was fishing with about 30 other people and on some days there were as many of 10 of us out there sharing information. I hope to do a lot more of it this year. So post up here and PM me if you want in on the Facebook page.

Hi All, Mike here out of Falmouth inner Harbor. I run a 33 Grady Express with outriggers, and full electronics package and full safety gear with raft. I typically fish a 6 rod spread and usually troll in the am's and shark in the afternoons when out south. I'll occasionally run east if the bite is hot out to Regal Sword or Crab Ledge but that's rare. Always looking to learn from others, and happy to share intel. Boat named "Fishin Feinz". Looking forward to a good season.

Chris - Moved to Westerly from the point this year. Fishing a 27' Everglades w/ 2- 300 zukes "New Kitchen" (wife has been bugging to get a new kitchen now she has one). Spread of 6 to 8 depending (30's & 50's w/ jig n pop rigs) on the crew and bite. Typically fishing w 3 to 4 man crew but sometimes will go out with 2. Most of the time i have an open spot. Always, loaded with a ton of food but I typically don't hit the beer till the ride in. Usually, we always raise fish of some sort tuna, Mahi or will cod to throw something in the box. Always, on 68 vhf

Also, usually swing into the Oar on BI at the end of the day and have them prep up some of the catch

I’m Macol and fish out of Martha’s Vineyard. We run a 29 Striper “Morning Flight”. New electronics package, vhf, eprib, flares, inReach, etc. we run 6-8 rod spread with 30-130 depending on where we are fishing. We generally fish dump area and out east. But are planning on making canyon runs as well. We are usually all set on crew but could always use buddy boats out on the water. I can’t wait for this season!

My name is Jeff, I have a 28' Parker WA "Reel Traffic" that I run out of Westport. We usually run a 6-8 rod spread and have more spreader bars, rods and general trolling gear than my wife knows about. Raymarine Axiom, radar, life raft, epirb, Garmin InReach, back up radio and gps, flares etc. I usually have enough crew but ocasionally could use an extra but always looking for another buddy boat. Definitely looking to share intel. Usually hit the Dump area several times a year and an occasional canyon trip when everything lines up perfectly. Looking forward to the season as well!

Hey guys, Tyler Dufresne here. I'm a charter mate from Falmouth and spend most of my time in the canyons all summer, but we also head to the claw, dump and lanes occasionally. I'm always willing to share information and help people out. I also do a lot of freelance work so If anyone needs an extra guy this season don't hesitate to send me a PM as I'm always around Falmouth when I'm on shore. I have too many bars, marlin lures, ballyhoo rigs and green machines to even count!

Mike here.... I run a 23 foot Regulator out of West Falmouth. For years I was lucky enough to have a reliable crew always available to me. (My boys). This year they are both working and living on the Vineyard. So I will be looking to have crew or be crew more this summer. I will run as far as the Sword and try to stay north of the southern part of the Dump on my little boat. I have more gear than I need and less than I want.....

I have enjoyed meeting many of you at the annual get together.

Bill, I have managed to avoid Facebook for years..... Are you forcing me to join?

Mike

I'm Keith. I own a 31 EdgeWater that is docked in East Falmouth. You guys may remember me as a stand out junior high school athlete who's career was ultimately cut short in college due to mediocre genetics and generally average athleticism. When it became apparent that I would never "go pro", I sought alternative career paths, but still I really only felt at home on the water. Eventually I quit my pornography job, got a master's degree, and went into the pharmaceutical industry so I could afford my own 30 foot center console. Now I am a total THT Badass with JBL speakers, a Clarion sound system, dual 12 inch screens, and twin Yamaha F300s. I fish the canyons mostly, but sometimes in closer, and I always use stupid cliche's like "this water looks fishy" and "that bite was LIGHTS OUT". I know one speed and one speed only- WIDE OPEN THROTTLE!!!!!

If you see me out there on the troll, tuck right in behind me, because I'm definitely ON THE MEAT!!!!!!

I'm Adam. My father Alan and I run a 32' Shearline Express called 'Reel Keeper' out of east falmouth. Fish all over and go south whenever possible.

I also know Keith well and can confirm everything he's stated above.
