Default Chatham Navigation

Looks like a long ride around for those of us in Oyster River or Stage Harbor----- on the bright side you can walk over to Monomoy Island now for some flats fishing....

The guys over at Outermost Marine must be a little concerned. Sounds like the fools break might not be navigable or be tide dependent.

Gary , thanks for posting that. Does not look good for Chatham. Hopefully, the sand will shift when we get some southerly's.

Outermost to Fools is still okay. It's the other end that's silted up---by Morris Island and Stage.

From what I read on "Chatham Three Breaks" Facebook. There is 3.5 ft of water at high tide in the fools break and less than a foot at low tide.

Keep the faith. Everybody was convinced last year that Chatham was dead and it worked out. A lot can change during the next 2-3 months and it sounds like the northern cut is only getting wider and deeper.

Coast guard has been running the April Fools cut through the break all winter. True that there are many changes, but unless the last storm altered things dramatically, it may be an even straighter shot out when coming through from Stage / Outermost

Yeah, but hairy if any kind of roll; if the north cut can get to the same point as several years ago, will be happy

With those new jetty walls going up on the North cut, we’ll have a pretty insane Fall albie season inside Pleasant Bay, AND a straight shot to the East. Build the wall! 🤣

Chatham doesn’t have an albie run ;-)

Walked the Beach from Outermost Harbor to almost the tip of Morris Island on Sat. at low tide. The Outerrmost Channel looked completely impassible---no 33' Gradys going out of there at low tide! They do have a maintenance dredge permit and may need to use it. The Fool's cut has a sand bar across it from wha't left of South Beach over to Lighthouse Beach. It looked pretty shallow at low tide but should be Ok an hour or so after. That being said the '87 cut is a mess..two bars have formed and there was an south easterly wind on Saturday and waves across both bars. To the south the "bathtub" channel looks OK to the tip of Morris island but after that who knows. All of the orange buoys marking the Southway were on dry sand and the only "alphabet" buoy remaining was almost beached on Morris Island. Without a boat its hard to say how much water is there but it definitely is shallow and looks to be highly tide dependent towards Stage Harbor.

I would imagine that Chatham was a tough deal for Freedom people. I think they have a reciprocal membership thing so, if you were on your Cape Cod vacation from Lake Erie could swing into the Chatham location and grab a boat. I'm guessing that the number of "easy" days to boat out of Chatham for a boat clubber are pretty low. Between swells, fog, sand bars and navigating through the area just outside of Outermost, the bar is probably set VERY HIGH. Doesn't look like there is any dredging planned by the Town of Chatham for either the Fools side or the Stage side, so it will be interesting for sure. The North cut now looks like it is a half mile wide now though, so that is interesting.

We took a Freedom boat out of Outermost last fall. They said there were trackers on the boats and their boats were NOT allowed to go out through the new cut.

Looks like access to South Beach is totally gone. Last year we could still get through, although a couple of times I did have to wait it out just after the turn. Out front just looks ugly...
