Start in the back and work to the front. Usually first/second week of April for me. Looking forward to it, have to go through my gear and re-load, re-tie, etc.

i got quite the inventory on gulps and rods/reels. i actually bought 10 of these Plano storage containers that actually seal unlike the Gulp containers that constantly leak. putting all gulps into these containers for the season and storing them in a tackle bag during my fishing trip

3rd week April about right. Gear needs a reboot and getting the old girl ready for season 19. Soft bodies and bridge piles my usual start.
Too old for March madness😀

Looking at 2nd week April, have some new electronics that I want to install. Not going as planned, running wires through the pipes in the hard top.
All the fishing gear prepped and ready to go. trying some new lines on some of the reels and new soft bodies.

Separate topic but related- I am looking for a small 5-7 inch unit for my flats boat. I realize there are 100 threads on this in the regular forum but we all seem to fish the same area here so any recommendations are welcome. I have Garmin on my Everglades, but considering a small Simrad unit for the new boat? Like the GO5 or GO7 XSE with a Totalscan transducer...

I'm putting the boat in on April 10th. I'm going to scout the inland areas around Bayhore/West Islip/Babylon/Lindenhurst for some shallow water bass. I had some good luck fishing those areas last spring when I first got my boat.

The Go5 is too small. You can snag a Go7xse with TotalScan for about $499 if you wait for the sales, or message semperffishing on his forum as he has the best deals usually.

I loved my go7 and last year I upgraded to a go9 for more screen real estate.

Thanks this is good info. I have a small footprint to mount it so liked the mount of the 5 but will take a look at the 7. Appreciate the information. 9 footprint is too long.

Starting to get antsy, ordered all my spring maintenance engine parts last night. If the weather stays warm the wrap will be coming off soon. Looking forward to a good season

Best Bass bellying for me is always that first week of may. Creeks in the back between 2 bridges, that are about 14’ deep at high tide. I set anchor about 20’ off the bank, give me an early morn or late afternoon Outgoing tide. All We get is a window for 2 maybe 2.5 hrs before tide is moving way to fast, since we fish no weight. I always bring a second anchor since sometimes wind will overpower current in beginning, and I want boat held in one spot..But mid April you’ll have those bass in inlet, but there I fish w/ fish-finders. But nothing more comfortable than a back bay creek w no boat traffic and a beer!!

only interested in bass? the thing i always love most about jones inlet and in/out vicinity is the sheer variety and choice (or sometimes weather determined). yes, typically starting in april but with weaks and also small blues and school bass on the fly. in may adding fluke, more bigger blues and bass on the fly. by late may/june - bigger fluke and bigger bass starting to move outside and maybe spending some time looking for the big bass. by june add the nearshore reefs and all the tasty bottom fish. sharks mid-shore and maybe some surprises. by july its usually on mid shore and offshore and the reefs and ledges are on fire. the variety of pelagics is sometimes mind boggling

lets not even start on sept-nov when it just keeps getting better. between the spanish macs, shad, blues and albies my fly gear is always close at hand an yes, the inevitable resurgence of bass. also, some of the best surf casting and shore fishing (i think) is in may (and again in october)...

Plastics, plugs, and poppers to start for me. In the backcountry where the water warms up, shallow mostly 3-4 feet of water.

Pitching shads around structure and flat to drop off areas especially at the beginning of the out going tide.
Although this year I think halibut in Alaska gonna be my fave

I looked back on my site and saw that I landed my first bass last year on April 20th. However in the report I mentioned that water temps were almost 60!!! we aren't going to see 60 for awhile. In fact 15 days from now still shows air temps in the 40s. I guess I picked a good year to have a boat built. If it was nice out I would be going crazy. New boat should be here in a couple of weeks. When are you guys going in?
