Default CT guys - Roy's Dockside Marine - any experience?

Looking at a boat locally in CT (Saybrook area) - offered through an outfit called "Roy's Dockside Marine". Anyone have any experience with them (positive or negative)?

I've never dealt with him but he's been there for many years so he must be doing a fine job. The only advice I can offer is get the boat checked out by a pro, even a good broker can have a boat with unknown issues.

Make sure you have the boat surveyed! I bought a boat from him years ago. It was as is where is and his boats tend to be older. I was young and thought I knew enough not to survey it. Big mistake! I ended up doing engine, tranny, and fuel tanks. It was not Roy's fault.

I also bought a boat last year with no survey (not from roy)..

Young and dumb, needed a new engine to the tune of 20k 2 weeks into ownership.

If the boat is on blocks instead of a trailer, check the transom for cracks from the weight of the boat ending up on the motor from the ground settling. I looked at a few boats he had a few years ago and every single one of them had skegs buried and cracks at the transom corners.

I drive past that yard every day and some of those boats haven't moved in years and only some are covered for the winter. That may be fine for some but at bare minimum I would expect a boat on the hard to be covered to keep snow from sitting in it over the winter.

I drive by there several times a week and wonder how this guy stays in business. The boats just sit.
