I'm going to register and title a used trailer I purchased. Do I need proof of insurance like you do for a car to get registered and plates?
I believe boat insurance is optional, but not sure about trailer.

I could be wrong but I think your insurance company needs to stamp your RMV before you can even register it. You may want to confirm that.

Every year.....Go to the agent.....get the reg. stamped....
Go to the RMV......and pay more to renew the trailer for
1 year than the truck costs for 2 years....at least there
isn't much of a wait anymore.

I only had to go to the agent the 1st time I registered. Every year since, I get a renewal notice via mail and renew on the RMV website.

Same with the boat - I renew that on line at

This friggin state. When I bought my Loadmaster I didn't have the time to run up to Maine to do the paperwork. I did it in MA. Come November the plates expire like everyone else. Get the renewal and they want 77.00 for a year.
It's done in Maine now. Just like my last trailer. It's down to 30.00 for 2 years.
My insurance is covered both with the boat and the truck policy. They can fight it out if something happens.

I believe that a standard auto policy covers your libaility from bodily injury or property damage to other people or their vehicles that results from your negligance whether you are pulling a trailer or not.
The standard auto policy does not cover collision, fire or theft damage to your trailer however.
What on earth kind of special liability policy is required in MA for trailers that is not already covered under your standard liability auto policy?

I guess that's why it's called taxachusetts. Thanks for the replies - heading over to my insurance co now. At least you don't need a whole sep. policy.
