Notice: No trailer parking: Mystic/Medford
#41

There is always the Terminal Street Ramp in Charlestown, just past the high school. (Little Mystic) The housing projects across the way are a little tough, there is no dock, and the Chelsea St Bridge is too low for some at high tide. Also watch for a granite block just past the bridge on the Navy Yard side of the center line. (Stay closer to fuel dock). But it is an adequate ramp with parking and the Coast Guard use to use it to launch their 25 RBS when they had the MSST here.

As a group, do you feel like the work you do to maintain the public boat ramp is completely going to waste now that the ramp is more or less unusable to everyone BUT you guys?
Also I don't know why boats in massachusetts freak out so much about a little wake here and there. I used to be a NH boater and normal waves are just a fun part of recreational boating. But people in MA freak out, acting like a 2' swell is a 20' swell.

Wakes in a no wake basin are a problem. It’s a safety issue and it causes damage. The river has a 6mph limit, unless that’s changed.

I've been to winthrop too. That's not a good place for a 15' boat to launch at night. It's very dark out there past the airport.

I love that ramp and location. I used it the last couple summers a few times with no issues. Just park your trailer on the other side of the State Police barracks, there is a large public lot there. Put the trailer on the side and out of the way and you'll have no problems. Its a <5 minute walk back to the ramp, just load your boat so you don't have to drag anything back over the highway crosswalk.

I used this ramp exclusively for probably 20 years then moved to Saugus and started using the Winthrop and Kelly's bait shop ramp when we went out fishing. My buddy and I just recently picked up a new Sea Doo Fish Pro's and while breaking it in decided to hit the Mystic Ramp again. We where there this past Sunday and when we pulled in there was a truck and trailer in the "old lot" so we where like great and both parked in there as we used to. I guess we lucked out as we didn't have an issue. We had a good time so I decided to go again yesterday with the wife. It's a good thing my Truck had my business name on the rear window as within an hour I got a phone call from a bus driver saying my truck was going to be towed. I can't believe they didn't post signs about telling the public it was now a private lot.

Years later and still nothing. There is only one way we're going to encourage the DCR to fix this situation. We need to start parking all over the neighborhood, in businesses parking lots, parallel parking taking up 2 or 3 spots etc. It would be expensive, racking up all those parking tickets, but only once all the businesses around there started making a stink, would the DCR do something.
Now whether they would do something, like add a new trailer parking lot, or do something like close down the boat ramp entirely, who knows. But for the vast majority of its past users, its as good as closed down anyway so not much to loose as far as that goes.

I'm a number of states away and have no dog in this fight however........Why not stage a get-together now (or in the off-season) where as many people as possible show up with boats in tow and park all over the area. You don't actually launch the boats and simply hang-out for the day so you can keep an eye on the boats. It's an opportunity to connect with other area boaters AND start getting the word out that this ramp is un-useable due to parking. Filling all the streets, etc will, as you said, get some attention.......and not disrupt boating season!

The problem is getting the word out to the people that use this ramp. Or, that used to use this ramp. There's no way to do it. Maybe a handful might see it in this forum but theres tons of people that used to use that ramp, there's just no way to get a hold of them to organize anything. Even like a letter writing campaign would end up with 10 people writing letters. You couldn't even put a sign up with the ramp promoting something because no one would see it, because no one ever goes down there any more because its been unusable for enough years.

When I was a small kid ,My Dad was a member at the adjoining Mystic Wellington Yacht Club .Old Man John Russo, of the later famous Russo Marine ,would run-charge people all day and season long to use that ramp and it wasn't even his property or authority to do so. Welcome to Massachusetts ...............
it’s actually too bad as the ramp now just gets cluttered with debris and goose poop.

Out of curiosity, how much is a membership without a slip at that club?

Oh man we used to love to watch the ramp after the 4th.
we don’t have just a social membership unfortunately. You need a boat to join. My 31 was just under $1k / year.
Hanson me your name maybe we know each other

I *do* have a boat, it's just a small boat and I'd prefer to keep trailering it.
I've seen some real shit-shows at that ramp. This guy with a giant boat clearly using it for the first time. A shitty old pickup with broken 4wd and no weight in the back trying to pull a large boat up the wet ramp. Some dude doing basically every possible thing wrong: loading his gear and family while his boat was half in the water, blocking it for everyone, starting up the boat while it was still connected to the trailer. The pulling his truck forward but leaving it blocking the way so he was still blocking everyones way. It just went on and on.
It helps that my boat is tiny but I'm the fastest one you've ever seen at that ramp. In and out in 5 minutes or less, usually much less. If theres no one else in line I might start it up while my truck is still in the water. But if there's a line, I'm outta there like.... like someone who knows what the **** he's doing :P
