there will be other boats there .anchor, and use bait. clams etc.. sometimes it takes up to a half hour for them to find you.if your not gettin em' then -move, you really don't need numbers. they're all over the place.you don't need to get on top of anybody. in fact, your better off to find your own little spot where others aren't drawing the fish in. they are very scent oriented. good luck

That's where I am going to launch. I will give you a call.

I have a yellow 23' walk around Polar with twin 140 Suzie's.

It is named,,

"Miss Daisy" (I haven't put the name on the boat yet)

I plan on being at the ramp at 8:15. I have to drop off my son for school at 6:30 and then I have a 1 1/2 hour ride to the ramp. I may hit morning traffic on route 2. If I do I may get there a little later.

Three questions,,,,what kind of boat do you have?

#2, I head out from the Blyman bridge and get to the end of Gloucester "bay" which direction to I go? Do you head off a "little" to the left? I have only been as far as Saturday night Ledge. I consider Sat night ledge a "little" right.
Do you follow a compass reading?

#3 How long of a ride is it to Stellwagon (hours wise)

Thanks.

I also have to get through the rt2 traffic. I live in Ashburnham, so you will be there before me. I have a Pacific 23HT with a honda 225. 17 miles to Stellwagon from the harbor. how long of a ride depends on the seas.

Not to be a wise a$$ but you should really consider buying a chart and learning how to use it. Mass Bay is a big area to get lost in at this time of year especially with water temps in the 40s. You cant depend on the other guy to bail you out if you get in trouble and there are alot fewer people on the water right now. What happens if a fog bank rolls in...can you get yourself home? Any survival gear on board...raft/suit? Bad stuff can happen out there to everyone even those prepared for the worse. There isnt a fish in the world worth your life.

Have a great time tomorrow (I'm jealous) and boat safe.

Ya,,,that's what I was going to do,,,just head out to sea without a chart. ;?

Why would assume I don't have a chart?

I have a C120 RayMarine unit.

I also have a handheld Garmin 76SMap backup GPS.

And yes, I actually have THREE charts of the area on board.

Stellwagon is a HUGE place,,and I have never been there before. That's why I was asking for some Lat's & Long's or a compass reading so I had an idea on where to head. I wasn't just going to hold up my hand, point my finger, and say,,,"Lets go thata way"

But I will be honest and tell you, I don't have a raft or suits.
They are on the list.
I also do not have an Epirb
That is my next item to buy.

I have also completed my Power squadron coarse and have my card. My instructor was well trained in charts and spent almost every class on that very thing. I am not an expert but I get by.

If all that fails, I will call Nightrunner and have him come get me.
Unless your available.

Thank you for your concern and your well wishes.

SkiBoat try these numbers for the North West Corner of Stellwagon TD 13819.4 & 25668.0
TD 13800. & 44250. Your C120 should convert to Lat Long
Have a great day.

SkiBoat Dave,

I think Codfisher was just emphasizing safety first, and not trying to offend anyone. We try to help each other out here.

Fished the L's, BE, and east quite a few times. I've seen things go on out there!! We usually try to run with a buddy boat or at least make contact with someone receptive at the ramp. It's in your and his best interest.

As far as an EPIRP goes, I think you can rent them from places like BoatUS for around $50.00. More so a survival suit is important. I need to get a couple myself but know nothing about them. Oh and a float plan is a good idea too.

Good Luck out there and "Catch Em Up"!!
