Default Mobil marine mechanic scam NH MA - Northeast Marine -UPDATE

My insurance company was fantastic., They have concluded the investigation and will reimburse me for all of the damage (including the engine) and stolen articles minus my deductible. Other than the 2300 dollars that I paid, I am whole again.

Engine is fixed, stolen articles replaced, cosmetic work still to be done.

The criminal case is still uncertain. It is now in the hands of NH police.

So many bad feelings over this I will likely sell the boat in the spring.

I can't begin to tell you how angry I am right now. Stupidly I let a mobile marine mechanic from Craigslist pick up my boat to fix some minor issue with the newly installed long block hesitating a bit. This mechanic is clean cut and well spoken. His name is Lee Cwalina and he does business as Northeast Marine using various addresses it seems. Well he told me I also needed u joint and bellows replaced that were allegedly "shot", power steering repaired and other work. Quoted me just under 2300. Said it would be a week. I was going to be away so I told him to drop it off then I would pay him. No dice, send him a check and my perfect boat would be waiting when I get back from vacation. My boat has been out of commission off and on getting this new engine and I wanted to get on the water so I trusted him. Well finally 5 weeks later he returned my boat in the pitch black last night. Uncovered, bimini top up. Scratches all over the hull, dock lines gone, personal electronics gone, bellows not repaired, all 57 gallons of gas gone, my personal bedding and tableware from the cuddy obviously used. The boat was filled with greasy water in every compartment. Beer caps and things in the boat. I keep my boat pristine. Gave it to him with a tight and trailerable mooring cover. This guy had my boat as a personal toy to beat on for 5 weeks and did not do the work I paid for. Of course he won't answer my calls or texts. I googled him and he is a criminal. Not sure what to do now. My boat will never be the same. Broken shifter, broken horn, cracked fiberglass near the drain, missing screws here and there. Food and wrappers in it. Won't start. No gas. Any recourse? Small claims court is my word against his isn't it? Insurance claim? Sorry for the long rant. This is partially my own fault for being a trusting guy. Warning to THT fellows. DONT DEAL WITH LEE CWALINA NORTHEAST MARINE

Ouch. Call your insurance agent and run it by them. You could do small claims but even winning it may be difficult getting the money. File a report with the state attorney general and report it to the BBB. Not much else I think you could do. Thanks for the heads up to the rest of us. Good luck!

If you need a good RELIABLE marine tech try Rich Benn in Dover. He has been around for years and has never let me down.

Damn I'm pissed for you. I'd almost consider pretending I'm a new customer to come check out a boat for me. Did he run the boat? Are the hours way up? Hopefully insurance can help, or the police. Vandalism perhaps?

I would give him an address of some corn field and have him come pick up a boat that does not exist and beat the living shit out of him.

Stickbro yes he not only ran the boat, he damaged and stole some things. The boat had a full 57 gallons in it when he took it and came back dead empty. I mean it was so empty it was out if gas and would not start. Lake test? Right! I don't have an hour meter but I know my boat very well. Every inch. He left it in his lake and beat on it and partied with his friends. I can tell by the things I found and things he used or broke. I am madder than I have ever been. Spent all day yesterday buying replacements, cleaning every inch and filling her with gas. Shifter might be okay. Maybe he told me it was bad to extort more money. Yes the police will be called, the attorney General and BBB. I see if I can get him to small claims court. I will also call my insurance company once finalize the damage and all. Taking it to Lake Q to see how it runs today. Crossed fingers.

Jason you know the year I have had trying to get my boat squared away. 500 dollar registration ticket then 2 separate mechanics and the boat is still not running exactly right. Dying to get back on the water but lost most if another season. Only been out about 8 times. On a side note, did you get the C Dory 25? PM me with details.

Craigslist........Nothing good comes from it. If you are trying to sell something you get nothing but tire kickers. Finding a boat mechanic..... I never let anyone touch my boat unless I hear from at least three people that they are reliable.

Sorry you had a problem... Understand about taking matters into your own hands...

Another thing I realized over the last 2 boats I had in regards to mobile mechanics; it's hard to find a good one. OR you may find a good one but they're limited in tools and diagnostic equipment. AND can't warranty anything because they're solo and not affiliated with any particular engine brand.

I'm fed up with these mobile guys and learned my lesson last year. Now all my money goes to Roht Marine in Scituate. FIRST CLASS service, intelligent people and excellent customer service.

(Btw WBrophy...To your earlier question; yes, I bought a C Dory 25 cruiser!)
