Is it just me or is there a disproportionate amount of dishonest folks vs professional in the marine world?? I have many other hobbies where I spend a lot of disposable income; like skiing, motorcycling and running etc. I never think twice about the dealings I make when buying goods/services from their individual industries. But in boating I feel like it's hard to vet an individual or even a business. It's frustrating because I know there's TONS of great folks out there but they get overshadowed by the bad elements.
Sorry for the rant! Lol

Well one thing is very clear from looking at his website; he is not NAMS or SAMS accredited and not having one of those designations seems kinda fishy for a surveyor.

The evidence was clear enough at the time of his inspection. The bottom paint had been repainted and now covered the boot stripe at the aft end of the boat. The boat had apparently taken on weight in the aft end and was sitting lower in the water. Rob's report had photos that show the repainting, but he did not catch it. Two seasons later, the hoses rotted out, water came in through the underwater through hulls, and I lost my boat.

I contacted Rob asking for a refund of his fee plus compensation for my time to find a new boat and sales tax for a new purchase, but he flatly refused. (He goes by R.T. SCANLAN, CMS/MMS/ACMS)
similar experience. Missed a 10k hull delamination for me.
