Default Bill allows animal rights activist to sue sportsman

Massachusetts Bill Allows Animal Rights Activists to Sue Sportsmen

Posted on: March 1st, 2013
Massachusetts State Senator Mark Montigny (D-New Bedford) recently introduced a bill that would allow private individuals to file a lawsuit for the “protection and humane treatment of animals.” This is of great concern for all sportsmen, farmers, and dog owners.
Animal cruelty is already a crime in Massachusetts just as it is across the country. Animal cruelty laws are enforced by experienced law enforcement officers, including local police forces and animal control officers, who are trained on what is and is not animal cruelty under the law and how to spot it.
Senate Bill 767 would end this proven system and instead give private citizens the ability to sue animal owners over what they perceive to be “animal cruelty” under the law.
“Under this bill, animal rights activists would be able to sue anyone – including sportsmen, farmers, and dog owners – whenever and wherever they think animal cruelty is being committed,” said Evan Heusinkveld, USSA’s Director of Government Affairs. “This could force sportsmen and women who have done nothing wrong to spend thousands of dollars to defend themselves against animal rights zealots looking to take them to court.”

I live in ct and we have Malloy who is just as bad of not worse. The problem is these people are trying to fix things that are not nearly as important as the real problems this country has. I am all for animal right no animals should be abused. But leave that job to the people who know what they are doing.

It's like this in every state. These clowns get in and want to change something, usual their own pet peeves. He probably saw his dog smacked for peeing in the house and is till upset over it. In NH I've seen these clowns at the state house spend hours debating the protection laws of some bird but ripped our state workers retirement plans to shreads in a matter of minutes.

They should go back to roman times and draft people by their SSN and force you to do it for one term than pull another name from the hat. There would be no agendas, or career politicians to keep distorting our country. Boo on the lawyer too, they take these peoples money and allow these ridiculos law suits to even be entertained. They too are part of the problem. Sueing over hot coffee, that lawyer should have been disbarred.

Sorry, I'm off the soap box now, I feel better, too

This is off topic so I apologize for responding but I must.

You and those like you who believe whatever corporate America and the media spin are part of the problem. Did you read the case in its entirety? Start by watching the HBO documentary titled "Hot Coffee" and your opinion (which really isn't your opinion as it is corporate America's opinion spun through the media and served to the general population who don't critically think and therefore adopt the opinion that was served to them by the media), will most likely change. What corporate America has been doing for 20 or 30 years, the Obama administration is doing and it's working. Here's a link to the movie trailer:

Anyone know if fish are classified as "animals"? I doubt it'll go anywhere, but it sure would make it interesting..... You would think they could focus on something more productive like not taxing us to death.

So the bill would allow a "party of interest" to bring suit.

It then defines a "A party in interest as plaintiff shall include any person even if the person does not have any legal interest or possessory rights in an animal". So a party of interest can be anyone who has no interest. Nice.

Did State Senator Mark Montigny have a lobotomy before he introduced this?
