Default Sandy boat victims

Captains that lost their boat to Sandy. Are you buying other boats for this season, waiting a year or getting out of boating entirely?
I'm seeing lots of problems for this season. Thoughts???

Avid fisherman are more likely to get another boat than casual fair weather boaters so I would predict many cabin cruisers/aft cabins, etc etc type boats to not sell well and fishing boats will be selling better.

Not to derail, but I wanted to reiterate my offer from right after the storm. Anyone from the NJ/NY area is welcome to fish with me should you find yourself on the Cape. Just shoot me a PM.

In the area I boat in (Raritan Bay) most all marinas, fuel docks and anything else related got totally destroyed. What concerns me is all the debris, sunken boats, new shoals and relocated navigation markers. It's going to take a while to get all this cleaned up. in Getting gas might be a problem also.

I sell boats in south Jersey and central Jersey. So far this winter we have been extremely busy mostly with people replacing lost boats. Luckily in south jerz where most of my boats are, there was minimal damage to anything. In thinking about it, between two of us in the office, we've sold 10 boats that were replacements for lost ones. That's on top of the normal sales(which is usually slow during the winter anyway). Not just fishing boats either. I think once they declare the waterways safe OR safer, you'll see even more people buying. There's still a lot of apprehension here.
