Default Tuna Stellwagen Banks

I will be bringing my 25 foot sportcraft hardtop from Pa in late July to early August. We are staying in Plymouth and looking for a possible captain for hire. I read alot of forums and see many differant tactics (trolling, casting, jigging) for football size tuna. could anybody give any suggestions on rigging and tackle. Is this a good time for cod also. Any info would greatly be appreciated.

JWO,

I know several guys in the town, most already own charter boats and will most likely be booked solid at that time of year but if you PM me I'll put you in contact with several guys that chase Tuna out of Plymouth. I also know the harbor master staff and they may give you some leads on a captain.

As far as giving you pointers I am a newbie myself, I grew up a stones throw from Plymouth beach but my parents hated ocean fishing.

We operate a small marina in North Plymouth. I'm sure there will be a few guys around that would be more than happy to show you the ropes. Most of our customers are avid fisherman, (just the way we like it)

what order off the best tactics for this time of year would be best preferred
1 Trolling
2 casting
3 jigging
All 3 will work, depends on bait present, tide and weather primarily. Depending on what my clients want I have used all three effectively at that time of year. Personally for the little guys I like running and gunning and throwing metals, plugs and my other secret weapons at them. For me nothing beats fighting these guys on spin tackle. Drop me a PM and I will send you my number if you want to talk tunas.

I am 22 yearss old, I hold a 50 ton us coast guard captains license, I grew up,live, fish and keep my boat in plymouth I grew up on plymouth beach so my whole life during the summer everyday I fished from the beach or took my boat out. I probobly have more fishing hours at 22 than most guys have in the lifetime. When im not going for stripers and blues ill be out at stellwagen bank for tuna or at wildcat for sharks. If your interested for a guide this summer I might be available and if you don't have tuna gear ill bring everything. I have top of the line gear for tuna and shark light or heavy gear for spinning, trolling, jigging, or kite fishing for GIANTS I got it all. If your interested email me at bigslick86@hotmail.com or if your not interested feel free to email me anyways and pick my brain, maybe I can provide a guide service via email

JWO, jdizzle sounds like the way to go. I fish out of Plymouth. Don't hesitate to contact me before you come up for reports etc. Both tackle shops noted above are great to deal with.

the goverment scientist barbra block want the gov to stop fishing for tuna for three to five years and other countries like canada who are doing good are looking for more quota where as we haven't caught our quota in years that why it is importent the rec guys call in there fish to go toward the quotaand i think this is the first time that such a powerfull person is comming Dr. Rebecca Lent is currently the Director of the NMFS Office of International Affairs Rebecca wants to hear and discuss international concerns and issues and objectives for the 2008 ICCAT meetings
