Default Huge increase of slip fee

I keep my boat at a Marine Max here in New Jersey, when I got my new slip contract this week it reflected a $1500 increase to last years fee. It is a 23 ft. Grady White Gulfstream. When I called the office the manager to ask about the increase he said that corporate took over all the slip rental agreements. I've been there 3 years paying the same amount each year. I get it they sold a record amount of boats last year but that's Bullshit, raise me a couple of few hundred bucks I get that, but a 42% increase is ridiculous. And to boot they don't tell us until now, a month away from going back in, Thanks Marine Max. You suck! Now have to scramble to find new home! I spoke to a few people on the dock and they all said the same thing!

For a 23' boat, you could go to the Manasquan public docks on the Glimmer Glass. Probably 1/3 the price. No live aboards. Doubt that on a 23' boat.
I was in a jam looking for a slip, midway through the season. I went to Marine Max. They gave me a quote, and I laughed. Told them I pay 1/3 the price to be 1/2 mile to the ocean . One bridge to contend with. 23' can most likely slide under that bridge 3/4 of the time. Pull your antennas down, and slide on through.

What were you paying before? Slips are at a premium with 30 and 40 year waiting periods. Is it possible they were just catching up with everyone else?

30 and 40-year waiting periods? Maybe where you are but certainly not everywhere.

Safe Harbor bought out some of them around here and drove the prices right up and not to mention all the extra bs they require. Might be sitting this season out.

If you were paying about 1,800 for previous years, that was a deal. All my small boat slips are 2,500 and up , and all are rented with waiting list.

Up here, we got our renewals soon after slips are pulled, with $ due Jan 1. A months notice is probably all you get.

See what the 5 guys behind you think. Sucks, but it is what it is.

My boat slip price increased too much. I can hear all the people around the world feeling your pain. LoL

But all in all maybe it will turn out to be a good thing. You can hopefully find a better slip for less.

Good luck and don't forget to check Craiglist. This one looks like it could be close to you.

Bornio: I am assuming your on the Manasquan river? Its happening all over our area. I moved from Garden State Marina because the pricing got out of hand. Then moved to Comstock for the winter because once again, Garden State started to hit me with a "penalty fee' as I pull out in mid december to catch the bass bite... Now I winter at Comstock marine who are a well run marine with excellent service techs. Have to navigate the PP canal but I'm OK with that based on the hours of coming and going for me...

Doing some rough math in my head which is scary in itself but I think a $1500 increase equating to 42% would be in the $3500 with an increase to $5k range which I think is nuts if correct. That’s almost $220 per ft!

This is probably a good thing for you, anything MarineMax related is nothing but bad business and a rip off.

Its crazy right now! My couisin just got one of the last slips available last week in point judith for his 23 reg and he is paying just shy of 5K! Some marinas had a hundred people on the waitlist and others laughed when he even asked about a waitlist. I just had to scramble as the marina in greenich bay, ri I was at last season decided to rip out ALL their slips and put only a few in to accommodate 100 'ers for the owner and a few of his buddies. They never even notified us! I ended up at safe harbors and paying more than last year as well. Safe harbors is buying up everything up here and driving prices as well.

100%- the day the boat comes out in October is the day the following year contract is in the mail. The marina I am currently in took me 14yrs to get a slip, the mooring list is 25yrs. Prior to being in my current marina I paid 6700 a season (May 5 to October 5) to slip a 31ft, and there was a long wait list for that marina. The minute I left my slip was under contract.

pretty much anywhere you would want to keep a boat it seems. I think the op is getting a
deal.

$1,500/.42 =$3,572($3,600?) ~$5,100/yr now or
a jump from ~$155/foot to ~$220/ft

That's what I see from the info in OP...?
